So here's my dilemma - I've got this gorgeous clawfoot tub that came with the house when I bought it back in 2015, and I know everyone keeps telling me to just rip it out and put in a walk-in shower because that's what sells, but I'm honestly so attached to the thing. I've spent so many evenings soaking in there after work, reading my book, just decompressing from the day, and the thought of losing that feels almost like losing a friend. At the same time, the tile around it is dated, the grout is crumbling in places, and the vanity is way too small for two people to get ready in the morning without bumping elbows. I've been researching what my options are and whether it's even feasible to keep the tub while modernizing everything else around it, but most portfolios I see just show these sleek contemporary spaces with no character. I really need to find someone who gets what I'm going for and won't try to talk me out of preserving the soul of the house. I came across a few names while browsing online and I'm thinking of reaching out to some Palo Alto bathroom remodel specialists to see if they've worked on older homes before. Has anyone else here done a renovation where you kept a major vintage element? How did you balance preserving the charm while still making it functional for daily life? I'm worried about resale down the line but also I actually live here and want to enjoy my space, you know?
